Amy

Amy's dream is over as she becomes the first to be eliminated from 大象传媒 One's I'd Do Anything.

After a public vote Amy and Francesca were the least popular Nancys and Andrew Lloyd Webber decided to save Francesca. So Amy is the first Nancy to leave the competition.

In Saturday's live show, all 12 of the Nancy finalists performed I'd Do Anything as well as solo renditions of contemporary songs chosen to show viewers that they have the verve, skill and sheer charisma to carry one of the most challenging roles in musical theatre.

After performing their songs and receiving feedback from Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the expert panel of John Barrowman, Denise Van Outen and Barry Humphries, the Nancys faced a nervous wait for viewers to cast their votes.

John said that Amy gave "a confident performance, it was quirky." But he added that "the top end of your voice I found a little bit uneasy to listen to."

He suggested: "If you're here for the next time I want to see you open up that vocal."

Denise disagreed; she said: "Amy I loved your performance. You gave that song Oom-pah-pah, it was fantastic."

Barry said of Amy: "Lovely. I think you'd be a great comic performer in musical theatre apart from anything else. I think you've got a great humour in your work."

Amy and Francesca gained the least amount of public votes and had to sing a rendition of Tell Me On A Sunday in order to survive.

Then it was up to Andrew Lloyd Webber alone to choose which Nancy should be saved for another week.

In his deliberations between the two Nancys with the least amount of public votes he said: "This is a tough Sunday for me as well. And, wow, this competition is going to be very open. We've got the pros, with a really wonderful belt voice. And I've got to base it on the song I've just heard.

"It's hard," he said. "But I've got to save Francesca."

To Amy he said: "Because the standard is so high and because you slightly bottled your intonation, I worried whether you'd be able to cut it. You've done so well to come this far."

Amy said after hearing Andrew's decision: "I feel a bit numb. I feel upset, confused and sad, but happy that I've gone through this experience."

Safe for another week were Ashley, Cleo, Francesca, Jessie, Jodie, Keisha, Niamh, Rachel, Samantha, Sarah and Tara.

The remaining hopefuls will go on to next week's show where they will again perform for the nation, who will decide who should be Nancy in the new Cameron Mackintosh West End production of Oliver!

You Could Be Oliver!

Meanwhile Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh chose the first prospective Oliver to secure a place in the semi-final.

He is 11-year-old Gwion who hails from Carmarthenshire.

All 12 boys sang Food Glorious Food in Saturday's show; previously they had been monitored and mentored in an on-going process during which both Andrew and Cameron continue to assess their individual progress.

Three boys will succeed in their quest to win the title role in the new West End production of Oliver!
