The Ting Tings pay tribute to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... as they go to No.1

Chart-toppers The Ting Tings have thanked µþµþ°äÌý±õ²Ô³Ù°ù´Ç»å³Ü³¦¾±²Ô²µ... for giving them a "life-changing" break at last year's Glastonbury Festival.

The Salford duo – who hit the top spot yesterday with their single That's Not My Name – said:
"From the moment we played on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... stage at Glastonbury last year, our lives changed forever.

"The Introducing... people picked one of our songs to be broadcast on the Glastonbury TV coverage that weekend and we got noticed by the whole country!

"When we heard that we had been picked to play the stage, we were overjoyed and terrified all at the same time. The biggest gig we had played before that was in our front room!"

´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... brings together new music shows across the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and gives new artists the chance to be seen and heard – from live slots at major festivals to broadcasts on ´óÏó´«Ã½ radio, television and online.

The Ting Tings were invited to play at Glastonbury after they were spotted by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Manchester's Introducing... show.

The Glastonbury performance was followed by a headlining performance on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1's Introducing... night at the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Maida Vale studios in January this year.

The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... stage returns to Glastonbury again this year, showing off the brightest new talent as chosen by a panel including ´óÏó´«Ã½ DJs Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, Ras Kwame and Bobby Friction, musician Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol), journalist Caspar Llewellyn-Smith (Observer Music Monthly) and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Heads of Music.

Notes to Editors
- The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... stages at major festivals have seen performances from MGMT, Wombats, Foals and – most recently at the Big Weekend – White Lies and Magistrates.

- This year, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... will have an increased presence across all the major UK festivals from Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading and Leeds, Creamfields and Bestival, through to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Electric Proms 2008 in October.

- Other developments with ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... artists in the past year include Chipmunk, a 16-year-old grime MC who, after a ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... Maida Vale session in November 2007 hosted by Tim Westwood, has appeared on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two's Sound and received heavy airplay on ´óÏó´«Ã½ 1Xtra. Sam Isaac has also enjoyed daytime ´óÏó´«Ã½ radio play across networks after performing at last year's ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing... stage at Glastonbury.
