Shooting star at Radio Kent
|
There's a new shooting star at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Kent – Bob Mortimer will be hosting the Pat Marsh Show on Saturday 14 June between 10am and 1pm, when Pat goes on holdiay.
Ìý
Despite hailing from the north, Bob has adopted Kent as his home county, and so he jumped at the chance to bring his own brand of surreal comedy to listeners of his local station.
Ìý
Bob's first foray into radio was giving legal advice on his local station but he admits to having a love of 'trannies' from an early age, while also enjoying the protection radio can afford people when they are free with their speech.
Ìý
Bob says:
"I fell in love with radio when I was young. It was the only way you could listen to songs your parents didn't approve of - you put a transistor, a tranny, under your pillow in your bedroom and that's what has always made radio a bit magic for me.
Ìý
"I like talking to people on the radio because they are not physically near you and so you can say what you want without fear of attack or disease..."
Ìý
But joking apart, listeners can be sure that Bob's love of the county is sincere. He says:
"I like Kent for the very obvious reasons; it's very pretty and the weather is a lot nicer than up North where I am from.
Ìý
"I lived in several places in Kent and also filmed all over the county and we've always had a warm welcome from people in Kent, never had difficulties with people. It feels very English to me, Kent, and I am very much an Englishman in that Morrisey sense."
Ìý
Welcoming the new boy, Radio Kent Managing Editor Paul Leaper said:
"Bob's lived in Kent for over 10 years and clearly loves the county. With a love of radio and a unique take on the world, we're really pleased he's taking over the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Kent airwaves on Kent's radio station on Saturday morning."
