Rhys Bidder, who plays bad boy Macs in ´óÏó´«Ã½ Wales's Pobol y Cwm series, is one of 50 eligible British men who feature in the magazine's Bachelor of the Year Competition and he will now have to await the results of the readers' vote to see if he's won the title.

"I didn't believe it when I was told I was in the top 50 bachelors in the UK," says Rhys, from Swansea. "Going to London for the photoshoot was a very surreal experience for me – it was great."

Rhys follows hot on the heels of previous Bachelor of the Year Gethin Jones, who took the title in 2003. Presenters Steve Jones and Kevin Hughes also featured in the competition while working for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Wales.

"Gethin Jones's career has gone from strength to strength since winning the competition," says Rhys. "I met him at the BAFTAs this year and he's a really nice bloke. So following in his footsteps is great."

"Rhys is a great ambassador for the series," says Bethan Jones, Executive Producer of Pobol y Cwm, which is another product of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Wales Drama department alongside Doctor Who and Torchwood.
