The ´óÏó´«Ã½ announced today that it has appointed a senior dedicated Director to focus on its preparations for the events of 2012.

Ìý

The landmark announcement follows the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s highly successful coverage of the Olympic Games from Beijing and the new role is a key step in the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s planning for the London games.

Ìý

Roger Mosey has been appointed the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Director of London 2012.

Ìý

In this new full-time post, he will lead the co-ordination of all of the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s activities surrounding the London Olympic Games including sport, culture and involving the whole of the UK in that summer's events.

Ìý

Roger, who is currently Director of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport, will report to Mark Byford, Deputy Director-General, who is chair of the ´óÏó´«Ã½-wide London 2012 steering group.

Ìý

Roger will also lead the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s relationship with external bodies involved in 2012, such as The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG).

Ìý

He will continue as Director of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport until his successor is appointed.

Ìý

A process to find a successor to lead ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport will begin shortly.

Ìý

Announcing Roger's appointment, Mark Thompson, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Director-General, said: "London 2012 is one of the biggest events in the UK to be held in our lifetimes and requires all our focus and energy. Now is the right time to take this important step in the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s planning for this momentous year.

Ìý

"I witnessed first hand in Beijing what is required to successfully deliver such a major broadcasting event, and we all saw the outstanding coverage by the ´óÏó´«Ã½.

Ìý

"I believe Roger Mosey is ideally placed to fulfil such a challenging and important new role."

Ìý

Mark Byford, Deputy Director-General and Chair of the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s London 2012 Steering Group, said: "The scale of the planning involved for London 2012 means it's right we appoint a full time co-ordinating Director now and Roger will be a pivotal player in ensuring the ´óÏó´«Ã½ provides well co-ordinated, outstanding and innovative content."

Ìý

Roger Mosey said: "I am delighted to be taking up this exciting new role and new challenge which will allow us to build on the success of Beijing and deliver something even bigger and better for London.

Ìý

"I believe there's a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ together – globally, nationally and locally – to provide an unforgettable sporting and cultural experience for our audiences."

Ìý

Roger Mosey was appointed the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Director of Sport in August 2005, and is currently responsible for sport on television, radio and online.

Ìý

His previous jobs include Editor of Today on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4, Controller of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live and, most recently, Head of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Television News.
