大象传媒 statement on Crufts
|
Following the transmission of Pedigree Dogs Exposed on 大象传媒听One on 19 August 2008, the 大象传媒 is seeking reassurance, on behalf of its viewers, that the objectives, practices and organisation of the breed competitions at Crufts have as a first priority the health and welfare of all dogs taking part in the competition.
听
The 大象传媒 has decided to appoint a small advisory panel to advise the 大象传媒 on what measures The Kennel Club should be expected to take now and commit to in the future.
听
The panel will be asked to consider the issues that have been raised about the health and welfare of dogs taking part in the breed competitions at Crufts. The views of The Kennel Club and any other bodies or experts the panel wish to consult will be taken in to account.
听
The panel will be asked to give the 大象传媒 their advice quickly to enable the 大象传媒 to discuss the issues with The Kennel Club before planning begins for coverage of Crufts 2009.

Notes to Editors
听
Pedigree Dogs Exposed was an in-depth investigation into the health of pedigree dogs. It uncovered the extent of the health problems caused by decades of inbreeding and by breeding dogs primarily for beauty rather than health.
听
The Kennel Club organises Crufts and is the owner of The Kennel Club Breed Standard, which sets out particular characteristics and physical traits each breed should display.
听
Crufts has transmitted on 大象传媒 Two since 1966 and is due to next take place in March 2009.
