One of Walford's most notorious villains is set to return to Albert Square this Christmas in ´óÏó´«Ã½ One's EastEnders, when Nick Cotton (John Altman) makes his way back to the place he once called home, hoping his old Ma will welcome him home in the way she always used to.
Ìý
Nick has been inside for the past few years so what exactly has he been up to since his release?
Ìý
Why is he back in Walford and how long will he hang around this time?
Ìý
Is he a reformed character and will Dot finally be able to trust him?
Ìý
All of this and more will be revealed when he returns to the Square at Christmas. Ìý
Diederick Santer, Executive Producer, adds: "Nick Cotton is an EastEnders legend. His complex relationship with Dot, his criminal tendencies, and his addiction to heroin, violence, and everything else that's bad have made him one of the show's best-remembered and best-loved villains.
Ìý
"We're very excited that he – and the talented John Altman who plays him – will be returning to the Square."
Ìý
John Altman adds: "After an absence of seven years I am thrilled to return Albert Square, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ have always given me great storylines as Nick Cotton and I look forward to seeing if Nick will once again spread fear and loathing throughout the Square!"
Ìý
John Altman appeared as Nick Cotton in EastEnders' very first episode which transmitted on 19 February 1985.
Ìý
From the outset he caused a scandal by murdering Reg Cox and then went on to later kill Eddie Royle.
Ìý
Nick stopped at nothing and nearly succeeded in killing his mother when he tried to poison her.
Ìý
The last time Nick Cotton was living on Albert Square, Dot disowned him when she realised that Nick's son Ashley's death was his fault.
Ìý
Nick had been desperate to get his own back on Mark Fowler and, determined to hurt him, he cut the brakes on his motorbike. But it was Ashley that took the fatal bike ride.
Ìý
For the past few years Nick has been residing at Her Majesty's Pleasure for drug related offences.
