Radio Cymru launches Battle of the Bands

Who will be the next Sibrydion, Radio Luxembourg or Euros Childs? This is what Brwydr y Bandiau (The Battle Of The Bands) aims to find out and Mentrau Iaith Cymru and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Cymru's C2 campaign to find 2009's young and most talented performer/performers is about to commence.

The prize this year is better than ever and offers the new talent a full apprenticeship in the Welsh music scene. The winners will record a session for C2 programme, will perform live in Maes B at the National Eisteddfod and in Mentrau Iaith Cymru gigs and on C2's school's tour. There is also an opportunity to perform on S4C's Uned 5 programme.

Rhodri Llwyd Morgan, formerly of Cerrig Melys, has been involved with the competition since the beginning and he will again be judging the young talent.

He says: "We had a wide range of music and indeed standards since the competition began. Last year I think we heard the heaviest rock band ever in the history of the Welsh language music scene along with the usual crazy performers from Crymych! This year I hope the madness and energy continues!"

If you are an individual or a band over 16 years old with at least half of the members 21 or under, have never released a commercial CD and you can sing three songs in Welsh with at least two of them original – the team would like to hear from you!

For further information about the competition and the first rounds in your area go to bbc.co.uk/c2 or contact your local Menter Iaith by visiting mentrau-iaith.com.

The closing date for entrants is Saturday 31 January 2009.
