´óÏó´«Ã½ Asian Network DJ Bobby Friction won the Best Radio Show Award at the UK Asian Music Awards (UKAMAs) last night, following the success of Adil Ray, who won the same category last year for the Adil Ray Show.
The award for his show Friction on Asian Network was presented as the stars of the Asian Music scene gathered at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
Asian Network's Ameet Chana, who hosts the Bhangra show Breakdown, was also nominated in the same category.
Bobby said: "The award is great recognition of all the hard work that the team and I do to ensure the show delivers unique and original material that, outside of the Friction show, you don't get to hear anywhere else."
Playing the best Asian beats and highlighting new and unsigned music, Bobby's show is weekdays (except Wednesdays) on the national digital radio station Asian Network, and has long been recognised for championing new and established British Asian music.
The Friction show was recognised with a Sony Gold Award in 2007, adding to the two Bobby had previously won (one with Nihal).
Friction's dedication to music and passion for spotlighting new, old and breakthrough artists, coupled with his global appeal, makes him a true ambassador for the Asian music scene.
Bobby Friction joined the ´óÏó´«Ã½ in 2002, co-presenting with Nihal on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 on the Sony Gold Award winning Bobby Friction & Nihal Presents, and joined the Asian Network in 2005, presenting the station’s Saturday afternoon Album Chart Show before ending up with his own show, Friction.
A hugely influential figure on the Asian Club and music scene, Friction is a much sought after broadcaster and industry figure with a wide appeal.
He won his second Gold Sony Award in 2005 – for his ´óÏó´«Ã½ documentary Vote Friction on elections and the BNP in Burnley – and swept up his third in 2007 for the Friction show on Asian Network.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Asian Network is a national digital radio station that is available via DAB digital radio, Digital TV and online at bbc.co.uk/asiannetwork.
Friction can be heard can be heard on Asian Network on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10.00pm to 1.00am, and on Tuesday from midnight to 2.00am. The place to hear banging Asian beats, new and unsigned music.
Bobby Friction & Nihal play the freshest Asian flavas on Wednesday from midnight to 2.00am on Asian Network and Radio 1.
