´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms in the Park will be returning to Swansea's Singleton Park for 2009, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Wales confirmed today.
On Saturday 12 September, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms in the Park will bring the magic of the Last Night of the Proms to tens of thousands of people throughout the UK in five large-scale outdoor events in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas will perform at the Swansea concert while Neath's mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins will be performing for the first time at the Hyde Park event in London.
The Singleton Park event – which is supported by City and County of Swansea and NS&I (National Savings and Investments) – will also feature the ´óÏó´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Grant Llewelyn and there will be simultaneous concerts in Glasgow, County Down and Salford.
Each Proms event is centred on a live concert, with its own high-profile artists, ´óÏó´«Ã½ orchestras and presenters, culminating in a live link-up with the Royal Albert Hall for the traditional festivities rounding off the world's biggest music festival.
As ever, crowds are encouraged to bring picnics and flags, to sing-a-long and enjoy the music and fireworks.
´óÏó´«Ã½ TV and radio favourite Sir Terry Wogan will be in Hyde Park again to oversee the festivities there, and the expanding programme of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Big Screens takes Proms in the Park even further around the country to venues including Cardiff (St. David's Hall, The Hayes), Swansea (Castle Square) and many other UK cities.
