´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live, ´óÏó´«Ã½ 5 Live Sports Extra and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4 LW have a bumper summer of live sport with ball-by-ball coverage of all the action from a defining summer for English cricket, plus Ashes 606 and Yes, It's The Ashes, a new-six part comedy programme hosted by Andy Zaltzman.
The summer of cricket starts with live coverage of the West Indies Tour of England (6-26 May), followed by the ICC World Twenty20 Tournament (5-21 June) and the eagerly awaited Ashes Tour and Twenty20 and One Day International series (8 July-20 September) against old foes, Australia.
During the Ashes series on Radio 5 Live, Ashes 606 gives listeners the chance to air their views on the latest action to Alec Stewart, Dominic Cork, Jason Gillespie and Mark Chapman.
Yes, It's The Ashes provides a comic angle on the series as it unfolds every Saturday morning from 4 July (11.00am-12noon). Andy Zaltzman, comedian and certifiable lifelong cricket nut (diagnosed as being unhealthily obsessed by cricket shortly after birth), will be assisted/goaded in finding comedic insight and absurdity in the great game's greatest rivalry by a team of similarly cricket-mad guests.
Zaltzman commented: "I can't think of a better time to be doing a series about the 2009 Ashes than in July and August 2009. Nor a better place to be doing it than 5 Live. The show will be packed with jokes and cover every conceivable angle of England's attempt to regain the urn which they so unluckily lost 5-0 in 2006-07. I guarantee there will never have been a 2009 Ashes show like it."
Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra have live coverage of every match of the World Twenty20 Tournament and Ashes series with the Test Match Special commentary team.
Leading the TMS team for the West Indies tour will be Jonathan Agnew alongside Christopher Martin-Jenkins, Henry Blofeld and West Indies legend, Sir Vivian Richards.
Jonathan Agnew and Arlo White will head the commentary team for the ICC World Twenty20 Tournament, and they will be joined by former Australian test cricketer Geoff Lawson, who also coached Pakistan to the final of the last ICC World Twenty20.
For the Ashes Tour Jonathan Agnew, Christopher Martin-Jenkins and Henry Blofeld are joined by summarisers Phil Tufnell, Geoffrey Boycott and Vic Marks. Former Australian captain Ian Chappell also joins the team, along with Matthew Hayden, who has played in the last six series against England. Radio 5 Live will have regular updates throughout the schedule on all the cricket action during the summer.
You can listen to 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra via DAB digital radio, digital TV and online at bbc.co.uk/5live.
Yes, It's the Ashes is an Avalon Television production for 5 Live.
