New football season on Radio 5 Live & Sports Extra

5 Live

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live is the home of live football and the 2009/10 season promises even more coverage including: a new look to 5 Live Sport; former Wales international Robbie Savage joining the 5 Live pundit team; £100 Million Or Bust, a three-part comedy series on the transfer window with Mark Watson; The Danny Baker Show on Saturday mornings from September; and more live football than anyone else!

This season 5 Live and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live Sports Extra will have live coverage of the Premier League, Championship, Leagues One and Two, Champions League, UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup, Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup, World Cup qualifiers and international friendlies.

Colin Murray hosts the new look 5 Live Sport on Friday 14 August on the eve of the new Premier League season with the Weekend Preview Show. Every Friday Colin will look ahead to the weekend's action with an expert panel of guests, including former Chelsea, Everton and Scotland player Pat Nevin. Colin will also host 5 Live Sport on Sunday afternoons, as well Fighting Talk which returns on Saturday 5 September (11.00am-12noon).

5 Live Sport will be extended until 10.30pm, Monday to Thursday, from Monday 17 August, with more reaction and analysis from the evening's sporting action including the Champions League, international, Premier and Football League matches, plus listeners' views on the night's events.

Arlo White will present 5 Live Sport from 7.00pm on Monday evenings, including The Monday Night Club, with regular guest John Motson, and Mark Clemmit's Football League round-up; Mark Pougatch will host the show on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday's with the week's big domestic, European and international matches; and Eleanor Oldroyd completes the line-up on Thursday evenings including UEFA Europa League coverage.

Mike Ingham and Alan Green lead the 5 Live commentary team alongside John Murray and Ian Dennis with expert punditry from new signing Robbie Savage, Pat Nevin, Steve Claridge, Graham Taylor, and Chris Waddle. Plus Mark Lawrenson, Lee Dixon, David Pleat, Jimmy Armfield, Gary Speed and Ian Holloway.

5 Live's flagship football phone-in 606 also returns for the new season with Alan Green on Saturday evenings. Spoony is joined by respected journalist Gabriele Marcotti on Sunday's show. Other new additions this season include the 606 podcast featuring the top ten calls of the week, and the 606 soapbox – a visible area outside grounds where fans are invited to gather and give vent to their thoughts on-air.

There's also a new look to Saturday mornings this season, kicking off with £100 Million Or Bust from Saturday 15 August, a three-part panel show based on the football transfer window hosted by comedian Mark Watson.

From Saturday 5 September The Danny Baker Show will provide the perfect warm-up to a day of 5 Live sport, featuring listener stories, comedy banter, fans on the road, interactive games, special guests and examination of the big (but mostly the little) issues that occupy supporters' minds ahead of the weekend action. Danny will bring his unique brand of comedy to Saturday mornings with the creative assistance of the UK's legion of travelling fans and armchair supporters.

The 2009/10 football season kicks off on 5 Live on Friday 7 August with live Championship commentary of Middlesbrough v Sheffield United at 8.00pm and a full programme of Football League matches the following day, including commentary of West Brom v Newcastle from 5.30pm. Sports Extra will have live commentary from the Championship on Saturday afternoons regularly throughout the season.

There's commentary of the Community Shield, the traditional top flight opener, between Chelsea and Manchester United live from Wembley on Sunday 9 August, and Chelsea v Hull, Everton v Arsenal and coverage of the day's 3.00pm kick-offs on the opening day of the Premier League season, Saturday 15 August.

Fans can also keep up to date with all the latest football news and views throughout the season with the 5 Live Football Daily podcast and the 5 Live Football Player, both available on bbc.co.uk/5live.

You can listen to 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra via DAB digital radio, digital tv and online at bbc.co.uk/5live. Radio 5 Live is also available on 909 & 693 AM.
