Chris Baxter walks The Leicestershire Round

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Leicester presenter Chris Baxter proves he can talk the talk on-air every weekday afternoon but now he is also aiming to prove that he can also walk the walk, by hot-footing it around The Leicestershire Round as part of a series of programming for his afternoon show.

From 2.00pm on Monday 27 July, and each weekday for two weeks, Chris is broadcasting a major series on the long distance footpath known as The Leicestershire Round, encouraging listeners to get out and about on-foot and enjoy a beautiful part of the country that is often forgotten in regular walking guide-books.

The Leicestershire Round is a 100-mile circular walk across the county, starting at Newtown Linford, the gateway to the beautiful Bradgate Park.

The footpath passes through the Soar and Wreake Valleys, before climbing to high ground at Borough Hill near Melton Mowbray.

The walk then passes through beautiful villages like Somerby, Hallaton, The Langtons and Foxton.

It also crosses major motorways, canal towpaths and ancient battle sites.

Chris says: "I'm a keen hiker, having completed many of England's long-distance paths like the Pennine Way, Dales Way, Cornish Coastal Path, Cumbria Way and Cotswold Way and many more.

"Having recently become a dad, I decided this year I should try a long-distance path on my own doorstep! It's been a real eye-opener."

In addition to Chris' walk across the region, listeners can still tune in for the regular mix of interesting stories, regular gardening advice, local musicians live and in the studio, showbiz news and great tunes.

Keep up with Chris' adventures across Leicestershire by tuning into Radio Leicester, from Monday 27 July at 2.00pm, and online at bbc.co.uk/leicester where Chris will be posting images from each stage of his walk and each episode will be available to listen to following broadcast.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Leicester broadcasts on 104.9 FM, DAB digital radio and online via ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer.
