´óÏó´«Ã½ 1Xtra announces today that Tim Westwood is to host their weekday drive time show.
Westwood, who already presents hip-hop shows on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 and 1Xtra, will take up the reins of the 4.00-7.00pm weekday show from 28 September 2009.
A former Sony award winner, Westwood is the most recognised urban DJ of the decade and is regarded as a pioneer of the UK scene.
He joined Radio 1 in 1994 to present the station's first rap show and can lay claim to having one of the best contact books in the business – counting the likes of Eminem and Snoop Dogg amongst his friends.
He also presents the popular TV series Pimp My Ride UK.
Tim Westwood says: "My swagger levels are through the roof!"
Ben Cooper, Deputy Controller, 1Xtra, says: "Securing Westwood for daytime on 1Xtra is exciting for us.
"He's a brilliant broadcaster and will bring a lot of energy, passion and music knowledge to his new show."
Westwood takes over from Ace & Vis who move to a new weekend show (4.00-7.00pm) on the station.
Ace says: "We've thoroughly enjoyed the last eight years and we're thrilled about the challenges and opportunities the new show will bring."
Vis adds: "Our new working hours also mean we'll be able to take advantage of other opportunities in broadcast media too which is exciting for us."
Ben Cooper adds: "Ace and Vis have had a great run on drive time and they will take their mix of humour and entertainment to weekend afternoons in a brand new show on 1Xtra."
1Xtra is the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s black music digital radio station, with a strong emphasis on live music and supporting new UK artists.
´óÏó´«Ã½ 1Xtra is available on DAB digital radio, digital TV and online.
Tim will continue to present his evening hip-hop show on Radio 1.
Seani B, who currently presents the weekend afternoon show from 4.00-7.00pm, is to present the 1Xtra Mix tape show on Radio 1 on Sunday mornings (3.00-5.00am).
