Eddie Morgan has been appointed to the newly-created role of Head of the College of Production within the recently formed ´óÏó´«Ã½ Academy.
Reporting to Anne Morrison, Director, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Academy, Eddie will be responsible for setting up and leading the college and, in collaboration with the Academy Board and senior managers across the business, will drive the strategy and delivery of Production training.
Eddie will be accountable for developing industry-leading training and development programmes and events.
He will also be responsible for ensuring the organisation complies with best practice and delivers value for money.
Eddie, who is currently Editor of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two's Culture Show, joins the academy with extensive experience of TV production, having worked in a wide variety of genres – current affairs, news, arts, consumer programmes, documentaries and drama.
He has worked across the industry at the ´óÏó´«Ã½, ITV and in the indie sector.
He began his TV career at Brook Productions as a researcher on the first series of A Week In Politics, and then moved to LWT where he became producer of Walden.
At 26 Eddie wrote and produced the acclaimed four-part series Neil Kinnock: The Inside Story.
He then joined Juniper Productions, working on a range of science and business programmes for Channel 4, before returning to LWT where he devised and became founder editor of the Jonathan Dimbleby programme.
After a spell working in strategy for Granada Media, Eddie joined the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to work as an output editor on Newsnight.
In 2002 he took time out from TV to work as Assistant General Secretary of the Labour Party and then went to the communications firm Brunswick before returning to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to help set up The Culture Show in 2004.
Anne Morrison said: "Eddie's experience in production, combined with his enthusiasm and passion for training, and his proven management and leadership skills, make him the ideal candidate for this new and exciting role.
"I look forward to him joining the team and to working with him to create an organisation that benefits staff and the wider industry."
Eddie added: "This is a fantastic opportunity. I can't think of a bigger, better challenge than helping to shape the future of ´óÏó´«Ã½ training.
"I strongly believe in the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s public service mission. As the pace of change gets ever faster across the whole of broadcasting and other companies cut back on training, getting every aspect of training right matters more than ever.
"Helping to launch and make a success of the College of Production is going to be huge fun and hugely worthwhile."
A successor for Eddie on The Culture Show will be sought immediately.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Academy aims to put training and development at the heart of the broadcasting industry by equipping both ´óÏó´«Ã½ staff and freelancers with the skills they need for a lifetime of employability in the current ever-changing media landscape.
The three colleges within the academy, the Colleges of Journalism, Production and Leadership & Management, together with the Centre for Broadcast Engineering & Technology, allow the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to deliver dynamic and innovative training focussing on core skills, values and specialisms in each area.
