´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1Xtra has announced DJ Target as the new host of 100% Homegrown, the weekly Sunday night show (7.00-10.00pm) wholly dedicated to championing the sound of UK black music.

Target takes over the reins from Ras Kwame on Sunday 7 March 2010.

100% Homegrown began at Radio 1Xtra's launch in August 2002 and has been highly influential through providing a live platform for new talent.

The show has also given major support to a host of UK artists from the beginning of their careers including Lethal B, Dizzee Rascal, Skinnyman and Estelle.

As a key member of pioneering UK Garage crews, Target comes aboard the show with first-hand knowledge of the UK black music scene and looks forward to continuing the musical legacy built by Ras Kwame.

Target says: "Having being immersed in such great music coming from the UK in the last few years, it's more than an honour and a pleasure to be taking over the Homegrown slot.

"Not only that, but following someone as influential and important to new talent as Ras Kwame only makes the job more exciting.

"I'm really looking forward to representing the UK and all the amazing talent it has to offer."

Ras Kwame says: "Presenting 100% Homegrown on 1Xtra over the last eight years has been like sucking on a never-ending favourite sweetie! Tasty! A fantastic experience in helping shape what continues to be a healthily growing homegrown urban scene.

"It's time, therefore, to hand over the reins to another homegrown champion, DJ Target, whilst I continue to fly the flag on Radio 1 and 1Xtra on Sunday mornings."

Ras will continue to present his weekly Sunday show which is simulcast on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 and 1Xtra, 5.00-7.00am.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1Xtra is available on DAB digital radio, digital TV and online at bbc.co.uk/1xtra.

Notes to Editors

Target will continue to present his Friday night Radio 1Xtra show, 7.00-10.00pm, the station's "official start to the weekend".
