England, Arsenal and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live fan Alan Davies is joining Radio 5 Live as part of its World Cup line up. The Jonathan Creek and QI star joins the station for six live shows throughout the tournament.
Describing himself as "profoundly obsessed with football", Davies's show will take a fan-based sideways look at the World Cup and complement Radio 5 Live's World Cup coverage of every match from South Africa.
Alan Davies joins the station for a World Cup preview show on Saturday 5 June from 11am-midday. The show will then broadcast on Sundays 13, 20 and 27 June and 4 and 11 July, again from 11am-midday.
Joining Alan Davies on the show will be Alan's mate and comedian Ian Stone, and DJ Tayo who supports Nigeria and England. The show will be produced by USP Content who have been responsible for the station's F1 coverage.
Features on the show will include 'man of the week', 'team of the week', 'goal of the week' and 'moment of the week' picking out unsung heroes of the World Cup using 5 Live's listeners and output across the range of its World Cup coverage.
Radio 5 Live Commissioning Editor Jonathan Wall said: "We're buying a secondhand sofa for Alan and his mates to sit on for five weeks. Nobody will be better placed to find the World Cup's most amusing moments. It will be essential World Cup listening whether you like football or not!"
