Radio 5 Live wins Sony Radio Academy Station of the Year 2010

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live scooped the Sony Radio Academy UK Station of the Year 2010 last night at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The station received the Award, the top accolade in the radio industry which recognises achievement from across the whole of the UK radio industry, from Tim Blackmore, the Chairman of the Sony Radio Academy Awards.

Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra Controller Adrian Van Klaveren said: "It's a brilliant achievement for everyone on the station – a superb team of talented presenters and the most passionate and committed team of people behind the microphone I've worked with.

"It's truly an award for everyone who works on 5 Live and everyone should feel the credit. But above all I'd like to thank our listeners – our connections with them and their contribution to our programmes is the heart and soul of what we do."

Mark Kermode, who hosts Radio 5 Live's film review show alongside Simon Mayo (Fridays 2-4pm), earned the Gold award for the Best Specialist Contributor.

Victoria Derbyshire, who hosts the 10am-12pm slot weekdays on Radio 5 Live, received Silver awards for Best News and Current Affairs Programme, and for Speech Broadcaster of the Year.

5 Live Breakfast hosted by Nicky Campbell and Shelagh Fogarty, weekdays (6-10am) won a Bronze award.

Radio 5 Live's digital sister station Radio 5 Live Sports Extra also reached the final three in the Digital Station of the Year category, marking a remarkable Sony year for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live with a total of nine nominations.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live and its sister station Radio 5 Live Sports Extra was nominated under the following categories at the 2010 Sony Radio Academy Awards:

Best Specialist Contributor
Mark Kermode – Gold Award Winner
