Over the past five weeks, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two series I'm In A Rock 'n' Roll Band! has explored the inner workings of great rock'n'roll bands, travelling with them from their humble beginnings to the height of their success. The series now comes to an exciting climax in I'm In A Rock 'n' Roll Band Live! – a special studio show hosted by Jonathan Ross on Saturday 5 June at 10pm, when viewers decide on their favourite bands, lead singers, guitarists and drummers in a national phone vote.
Jonathan Ross is joined by a panel of band experts, which include series narrator and member of The Shirehorses Mark Radcliffe, Lauren Laverne of 6Music and Kenickie, and The Police's drummer Stewart Copeland. A host of musical advocates – including Al Murray, Martin Kemp, Vic Reeves, Mark Ronson and Sharleen Spiteri – also join the debate.
During the programme, the results of a bbc.co.uk poll to find the top three in each category – the singer; the guitarist; the drummer; the other one; and the band – will be revealed. The advocates then have a chance to appeal for their favourites in the band, singers, guitarists and drummers categories. After debate with the panel, the public are given the casting vote by telephone.
The live national phone vote during the show aims to uncover the absolute best in each category. Only when these votes have been collated will the public's favourite musicians and the ultimate rock'n'roll band be unveiled.
There'll be a live audience, a house band and some of the greatest rock'n'roll songs of all time.
Mark Cooper, Executive Producer says: "We've spent five weeks exploring bands, what makes them tick, what are the constituent parts, what happens to them and some of their greatest and funniest stories from life out there in the rock'n'roll trenches. Now we are building on the dialogue of these shows, the chats that Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie have been having on their Radio 2 show and the voting on the show's website, to discover who ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two viewers really love.
"It's the viewers' chance to vote on their favourite bands, singers, guitarists etc and they'll be spurred on by a lively debate in our studio, hosted by Jonathan Ross, with the likes of Lauren Laverne, Mark Radcliffe and Stewart Copeland presiding over a string of advocates championing their heroes."
Nigel Smith, Senior Content Producer, Music Interactive, says: "It's been great to see so much audience participation in the I'm In A Rock 'n' Roll Band! series. We have received more than 150,000 votes for the online poll and hundreds of comments on the blog posts written by the programme makers."
I'm In A Rock 'n' Roll Band! is a brand new series for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two, which investigates what makes the perfect rock'n'roll band. The series has delved into the bands' worlds, breaking them down into their constituent parts (singer, guitarist, drummer, other one and the band as a whole), examining these individual roles and the journey they embark on together. It is an exciting multi-platform project which features content on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 2 and bbc.co.uk.
