Roger Wright, Director ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms and Controller of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3, today paid tribute to Sir Charles Mackerras whose death was announced earlier today.
"Sir Charles was a great conductor and his loss will be deeply felt by musicians and audiences alike. The range and quality of his work was extraordinary. He was due to conduct two Proms this summer and it is sad to think of a Proms season without his remarkable musicianship, good humour and charm. We will be paying tribute to him on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3 and dedicating a Prom to his memory."
Sir Charles's two Proms were due to take place on Sunday 25 July and Thursday 29 July. As with any changes to advertised programmes we will make an announcement when we have full information.
