´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4 returns to the Pleasance with a selection of its best comedy, arts and festival programmes. And, for the first time, to launch its exciting Edinburgh Fringe showcase, Radio 4 will set up stage on Edinburgh's busy Royal Mile on Sunday 15 August, at 1pm, for a one-off comedy experience.
Joining host Miles Jupp on stage will be top comedians, including Doc Brown, Andrew Lawrence and Tom Wrigglesworth, to name but a few. The people of Edinburgh will also be treated to two open-air editions of Radio 4's iconic panel game Just A Minute, with legendary host Nicholas Parsons. Resident panellist Paul Merton and Gyles Brandreth will be teaching the likes of Stephen K Amos, and others, how to play the game.
Those not in Edinburgh can watch highlights from this one-off event online at bbc.co.uk/radio4, view exclusive footage via the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Red Button, from Wednesday 25 August, and listen to a special festival programme on Thursday 19 August at 6.30pm on Radio 4.
Joining Radio 4's line-up at the Pleasance from Tuesday 17 August will be Arthur Smith in a festival edition of his comedy and music show, Arthur Smith's Edinburgh Bash – be prepared to travel around the nooks and crannies of this festival landmark; Ed Reardon, Radio 4's celebrated impoverished author presents his own favourite prose and poetry in An Audience With Ed Reardon – Ed will be helped by two so-called celebrity actors he's never heard of, although he'd rather do it himself and pocket the fee!; award-winning comedian Andrew Lawrence records two 15-minute monologues in which he skirts around some of life's big questions without drawing any useful conclusions, in What To Do If You're Not Like Everybody Else; and Ali McGregor, Australian cabaret star and all round diva hosts a cabaret show – Curiosity Killed The Cabaret – featuring the best cabaret and burlesque acts appearing at this year's Fringe.
Nicholas Parsons will chair two festival editions of one of listeners' favourite panel games, Just A Minute; Mark Lawson presents Radio 4's nightly arts show Front Row, reporting on the hits, misses and talking points of the festival so far; Clive Anderson hosts a glorious mix of chat, comedy and music with Loose Ends; and Comic Fringes returns with three new short stories told by three leading comedians for Radio 4's Afternoon Readings.
There will also be an opportunity to hear tips and ask advice from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio comedy writers and producers on what it takes to write radio comedy and get it on air, in a Radio Comedy Writers seminar. Comedians Sarah Millican and Chris Douglas will join the session.
Radio 4's full guest line-up in Edinburgh will be available shortly.
If you would like to attend any of the Pleasance recordings, or the Radio Comedy writers' seminar, please contact Radio 4 Publicity at radio4publicity@bbc.co.uk. Please note, guest tickets are limited per show, so do put your request in early.
