´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 is set to embark on an exciting month of live music in October with special nights to celebrate Mumford & Sons and Kings of Leon plus a student tour featuring Mark Ronson, 30 Seconds To Mars, Chase & Status and Klaxons.
Radio 1 Presents... Mumford & Sons and Friends and Kings of Leon Night will feature documentaries and live gigs from the critically acclaimed bands, recorded in front of an audience of listeners chosen via online registration.
Hosted by Zane Lowe, Radio 1 Presents... Mumford & Sons and Friends on Monday 11 0ctober will celebrate the new wave of British acoustic artists making a musical impact in 2010.
The night kicks off at 7pm with a live three-hour Radio 1 concert curated by new acoustic heroes Mumford & Sons, performing alongside their contemporaries Laura Marling, The Maccabees and Bombay Bicycle Club.
The electrifying evening finishes at 10pm with a one-hour documentary The Folklore Of Mumford & Sons, which delves into how the band – alongside some of their friends - have brought folk music back to the masses.
Radio 1 presents… Kings of Leon Night on Thursday 28 October starts at 7pm with Zane Lowe talking to the band ahead of a one-hour gig at 8pm performed exclusively for Radio 1. Recorded from a secret location the show will include a selection of the southern rockers biggest hits plus the unveiling of brand new material.
Straight after the performance, the evening continues with several shows taking listeners on an audio journey to how Kings of Leon became one of the biggest rock groups in the world.
Radio 1's Stories at 9pm strips back the rumours and gossip and tells the band's story through their own words. The revealing documentary is followed at 10pm by The Influences Of Leon, which draws together the songs that sound-tracked the formative years of the band helping to shape their sound. Kings of Leon Night culminates at 11pm with The Archives Of Leon, which features classic conversations, live performances, session tracks and live lounges from the past eight years of the band coming into Radio 1.
In addition to these amazing nights, from 18 October Fearne Cotton and Zane Lowe are heading out on a student tour – broadcasting their shows live from four universities across the UK.
They will also meet up with some of the biggest music acts of the moment who are currently on tour including Mark Ronson, 30 Seconds To Mars, Chase & Status and Klaxons.
Each of the acts will perform special Live Lounges in Fearne's morning show (10am-1pm) before Zane joins the bands in his evening show (7-9pm) for a headline live performance alongside their support acts Darwin Deez, Example and Everything Everything.
Ben Cooper, Deputy Controller, Radio 1 and 1Xtra, says: "October is going to be a fantastic month for live music on Radio 1. The station's continued passion for reflecting the excitement and energy of a gig I believe, is key to connecting with young listeners across the UK."
