´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3 attracted nearly 300,000 additional listeners during this season's record-breaking ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms season, according to figures published today by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research Ltd).
During the measurement period (28 June-19 September), the network reached 2.15 million people every week – up from 1.86m in the previous quarter – in a period when Radio 3 broadcast every single Prom live from the Royal Albert Hall. The network's share is 1.2%, from 1.0% last quarter and 1.4% last year.
In a strong period for radio listening, all ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio had a weekly reach of 34.24m – up from 33.58m last year and slightly down from 34.59m last quarter – and a share of 54.3% – from 54.6% last quarter and 55.0% last year.
Tim Davie, Director ´óÏó´«Ã½ Audio & Music, said: "These are strong figures for the industry, with ´óÏó´«Ã½ networks posting solid year-on-year performances after a quarter that saw records broken across the portfolio. Radio 3's commitment to bring the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms to a wider audience has been rewarded as the network bounces back above the two million mark."
´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 reported 11.65 million listeners per week in the quarter, up from the 11.11m last year and slightly down its record high of 11.81 million in the previous quarter. Its share – at 9.1% – is down on the quarter (9.3%) and year (9.9%). The Chris Moyles Show has 7.10 million listeners per week, up from last year's 7.04m but down from last quarter's 7.72m.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 2 has a reach of 13.68 million – up on last year's 13.62m and down on last quarter's 13.73m. It has a share of 15.6% compared to 15.9% last quarter and last year. The Chris Evans Breakfast Show attracted 8.14 million listeners every week, down on last quarter (8.48m) but up on the breakfast show this time last year (7.76m).
´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4 maintains a strong reach at 10.37m, up from last year (10.22m) and down slightly from a record last quarter (10.40m). Share is 11.8% – down from 12.5% last quarter and 12.4% last year.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live has a reach of 6.3million listeners, its seventh consecutive quarter above 6 million. Combined with sister station 5 live sports extra the networks reach 6.44 million listeners down on last quarter (6.80m) and down on last year (6.54m). Share for Radio 5 live (inc. sports extra) is 4.9% – from 5.0% last quarter and 5.3% last year.
In digital-only services, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1Xtra posted a record 806,000 weekly listeners – up on last quarter's 600,000 and last year's 547,000, and an increase of 47.3% year-on-year.
´óÏó´«Ã½ 6 Music attracted 1.20 million weekly listeners in the period – from 624,000 last year and 1.19m last quarter. ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 7 has a weekly reach of 1.05 million – up both on last quarter (949,000) and last year (884,000) and the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Asian Network's weekly reach is 462,000 listeners, from 437,000 last quarter and 357,000 last year.
