Radio 5 Live's festive feasts for Christmas 2010

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live will broadcast a sleigh full of special programmes over Christmas and New Year, including: the Ryders On The Storm, the real story behind this year's European Ryder Cup victory, presented by European team captain Colin Montgomerie; special festive editions of Jon Holmes's Mob Rule; Richard Bacon's Chart The Year; and a new topical news, sport and music quiz show, A Game Of Two Halves, with Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie.

There's a host of seasonal treats on 5 Live on Christmas Day, kicking off with Chart The Year at 10am, in which Richard Bacon and guests will digest the year's news and count down the Top 20 most entertaining stories of 2010. Adil Ray presents Snapshot Christmas, a live whistle-stop tour of the UK, to find out what the nation is doing at midday on Christmas Day. From Land's End to John O'Groats, Adil will capture funny and poignant real-life stories in a one-hour snapshot of Christmas Day in Britain.

Next up, on Christmas afternoon, comedian Ian Stone presents Christmas Up The Front (1-2pm), following fellow comics Sean Meo and Mark Walker as they entertain the servicemen and women in Camp Bastion and Kandahar, Afghanistan, in the final combined services entertainment tour before Christmas.

Miranda Sawyer hosts A Game Of Two Halves at 2pm, a topical news, music and sports quiz, with team captains Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie and special guests.

Nicky Campbell presents highlights of his trip to South Africa to cover the World Cup, including interviews with FW De Klerk, Chester Williams, football fans from around the world and, of course, the omnipresent vuvuzela.

At 7pm on Christmas Day, Colin Montgomerie takes a look back at the unforgettable four days of action at Celtic Manor, when Europe regained the trophy from the United States in Ryders on the Storm. Listeners can hear from some of the European heroes, including Graeme McDowell and the best of the 5 Live commentary.

Jamie Stangroom, from 5 Live's Up All Night, takes a look back at the big music stories and tunes of 2010 in The Sound Of 2010, including interviews with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme from Them Crooked Vultures, Manic Street Preachers, Cee-Lo Green, Slash, The Klaxons, Mumford & Sons and Jack White.

Other highlights on 5 Live over the festive season include an extended Fighting Talk – Doubles Special on Boxing Day (10am-12pm), with Colin Murray as judge and jury, where doubles pairs of FT favourites fight it out over sporting points for punditry, and Alan Davies and friends return to 5 Live on Monday 3 January for Armchair Premier League, reflecting on the season so far from the comfort of the sofa and looking to what lies ahead in the second half of the season.

On Christmas Eve, Colin Murray and Victoria Derbyshire look back at some of highlights from 5 Live's expeditions around the country in 5 Live On The Road in 2010 – from Septemberfest in Newcastle and Gateshead, Richard Bacon's shows from the Edinburgh festival and Colin Murray in Blackpool before the start of their Premier League campaign to Victoria's General Election and party conference debates.

Listeners can also hear reviews of the year's big news stories and events this Christmas. Peter Allen presents It Takes Two – How The Coalition Was Born, examining the historic days in May when the collation was formed. Peter will also be joined by special guests to reflect on the government's first six months in power. Radio 5 Live News Review Of The Year, with Stephen Nolan and Tony Livesey, looks back at the big news stories of 2010 including the General Election, the Haiti earthquake, Cumbrian Shootings, Raoul Moat and the Chilean Miners.

On New Year's Day, Adil Ray meets some of this year's real-life heroes in Heroes Of 2010. Adil hears stories of dedication, bravery and selflessness – from the international aid workers who have helped people across the globe to the "have-a-go-heroes" and life-savers around the UK.

Other highlights include a special festive edition of Jon Holmes's Mob Rule. Jon returns for a festive furrow through the new year celebrations, looking at seasonal stories, hopes for 2011 and memories of 2010 through the often weird and wonderful eyes of the general public. Inane message board comments, peculiar forum fanatics and online newspaper have your say sections are fully dissected and laid open to scrutiny by Jon and his guests as they enter a winter wonderland of mob madness.

Kermode And Mayo's Films Of The Year, on New Year's Eve, sees Mark and Simon cast their critical eyes over the best – and worst – big-screen releases of 2010.

The station also takes a look back at the year's big sporting events with 5 Live Sport Review Of The Year, a special 5 Live Formula 1 – Review Of 2010 and Savage And Chapman's Favourite Calls. Saturday night 606 hosts Mark Chapman and Robbie Savage reflect on the 606 season so far, continuing the debate on whether Wayne Rooney is world class, the best diet for professional footballers and how many pairs of trainers Robbie really needs.

There's also comprehensive coverage of the major sporting events this Christmas – Radio 5 Live Sports Extra has live and uninterrupted coverage of the fourth Ashes Test, which starts on Boxing Day morning, with Mark Pougatch reporting live throughout the night on 5 Live and presenting a special Ashes Breakfast live from Australia from 6am throughout the Test on 5 Live.

There's coverage of all the festive football fixtures in the Premier League, Championship and Football League, including live commentary of Manchester United versus Sunderland at 3pm on Boxing Day, Arsenal versus Chelsea at 8pm on Monday 27 December and full coverage of all the games on New Year's Day.
