Three new transmitters give motorists ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotland reception all along the A9

Theresa Talbot

Three new ´óÏó´«Ã½ transmitters will now give motorists and householders along the length and breadth of the A9 full ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotland coverage for almost the entire route from Perth through to Inverness.

Jeff Zycinski, Head of Radio Scotland, said: "It's great news to have these three new transmitters powered up just as we head into the winter months.

"As someone who lives in Inverness and regularly makes that journey south I know how important it is to have up-to-date weather and travel information on the car radio.

"For many years listeners have been asking us to eliminate this blackspot and the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Audience Council for Scotland have championed that cause.

"I know it was tricky finding the right locations for these transmitters and to actually build them on this terrain but the engineers have done a brilliant job. Now we can all enjoy almost interrupted coverage of Scottish news, sport, music and comedy. It should make the journey seem a lot faster."

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotland's travel presenter, Theresa Talbot, added: "I will be bringing motorists all the latest on the weather and travel throughout Scotland over the coming winter months to help people plan their journey when visiting relatives over the festive period and general commuting along the A9."

The three ´óÏó´«Ã½ transmitters are designed to plug a gap which exists in the FM coverage of nearly 35 miles between Blair Atholl and Kingussie.

The transmitters have been coming on-air over the past few months with the final one now in service from the start of November.

Until now, a large section of this major trunk road north of Pitlochry has been outside the coverage of the transmitter network due to the difficulties of getting signals across the Cairngorms.

The transmitters are located at Crubenmore Lodge, Dalnacardoch Wood, and Blair Atholl and each broadcasts ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotland only.

Listeners with suitable RDS radios should be tuned between the transmitters without intervention. For listeners without RDS or at home, the details of the transmitters are:

Crubenmore: NN666904; 93 FM

Dalnacardoch Wood: NN720714; 94.2 FM

Blair Atholl: NN894658; 93.1 FM

Crubenmore will carry local news and sport for the Highlands.
