Christian O'Connell to present 5 Live show in New Year

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live

Christian O'Connell will present his own Saturday show on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live in the new year – filling in for Danny Baker while he recuperates from illness, it was announced today.

The new Christian O'Connell Show (Saturdays 9-11am) will start on Saturday 15 January, with Lenny Henry as a guest. The show will run until the end of May 2011.
Ìý
Christian deputised for Richard Bacon earlier this year as well as presenting a regular show, the Christian O'Connell Solution, in 2009. Christian was the second presenter of the 5 Live Saturday morning points-for-punditry quiz, Fighting Talk, for a couple of years between 2004-2005.
Ìý
Keeping the spirit of the traditional 5 Live Saturday morning 9am slot, the programme will be a mix of audience engagement, entertaining guests and, in true Danny Baker style, creative nonsense.
Ìý
The popular sausage sandwich game, a staple of the Danny Baker show, will be rested until Danny's return and replaced by a brand-new audience participation game, Highbrow Lowbrow, hosted by Christian.
Ìý
Talking of his new role, Christian said: "Danny is the very best of the best and is handling his treatment with the humour and gusto you'd expect.

"Whilst he's getting better it's a privilege and honour to look after the shop until the great one's return. Expect great guests and banter."

Notes to Editors

Danny Baker is currently recuperating from illness and taking a break from his Saturday morning show on Radio 5 Live.

Since his time away from the show, other presenters have included Christian O'Connell, Suggs and Alan Davies, who will present the show until January.

The Christian O'Connell Show will start on 15 January and run until the end of May.Ìý
