´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer celebrates a record-breaking 2010

´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer

The ´óÏó´«Ã½ has today published the most popular TV and radio programmes of the year on ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer.

  • ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer celebrates its third birthday with record requests reaching 141 million during November, and over 1.3 billion throughout the year
  • Doctor Who was the most watched single programme of the year with 2.2 million requests for The Eleventh Hour, followed by the first episode of Top Gear series 15, with 1.6m and Sherlock – A Study In Pink on 1.4m.

Matt Smith's première as the Doctor in Doctor Who – The Eleventh Hour was named the most requested show of 2010 with 2.2 million plays. As ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer approaches its third birthday on Christmas Day, a look back at 2010 shows it to be the most successful year to date – with a record-breaking 141 million monthly requests for TV and radio programmes in November.

Strong performances in 2010 were also seen for Outnumbered and the 25th anniversary EastEnders live episode in February. On radio, sports coverage took the top spots with Radio 5 Live's coverage of the England v Slovenia World Cup game, The Ashes and The Ryder Cup receiving the most requests.

Daniel Danker, General Manager, Programmes and On Demand, said: "´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer has had a remarkable year – with well over 100 million requests for programmes each month of 2010 and over 1.3 billion programmes played through the year.

"In 2011 we will bring ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer to even more licence fee payers, dramatically increasing our investment in ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer on mobile and TV, and laying the foundation for an incredibly interactive London 2012 experience."

As part of the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s commitment to increase the reach of ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer, the service is now available on around 40 different devices. For those who enjoy watching on-demand from the comfort of the living room, ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer can be found on a range of TVs including Samsung, LG, and Sony Bravia, Blu-Ray disc players, Nintendo Wii and PS3 games consoles, and Virgin Media and Freesat set-top boxes. For those on the go, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer mobile site can be accessed from phones and tablets including Apple iPads, iPhones and selected models of BlackBerry, Android, Nokia, Samsung, HTC and Sony Ericsson phones (For a full list of devices, see the ).

With the Doctor Who Christmas Special, Upstairs Downstairs and Just William on TV, French And Saunders on Radio 2 or Ladies Of Letters on Radio 4, there's a great line-up across ´óÏó´«Ã½ this Christmas, and the only place to catch-up on anything you may have missed is ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer.
