In the run-up to the station's extensive season The Genius Of Mozart, listeners to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3's Breakfast show have voted Requiem Mass in D minor (K.626) as the Nation's Favourite Mozart.
The Requiem, composed in Vienna in 1791 beat other favourites Soave sia il vento (trio from Cosi fan tutte) and the Clarinet Concerto in A into second and third place respectively.
Radio 3 launched the Nation's Favourite Mozart on the Breakfast programme on 1 December. Listeners were asked to email or text in their favourite Mozart pieces many of which were played on the show. On 13 December, a Top 10 was compiled and listeners were invited to vote online to choose the winner.
Roger Wright, Controller of Radio 3, says: "We're delighted that our listeners have enjoyed hearing these great works on Radio 3 Breakfast and engaged with this search for the Nation's Favourite Mozart. I hope this enthusiasm continues with our Genius Of Mozart season in the New Year."
The Genius Of Mozart begins on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3 on January 1. The season will run for 12 days.
