In tonight's seasonal special, following the most successful series to date, John Barrowman was crowned Christmas Strictly Come Dancing Champion 2010, beating Fern Britton, Rt. Hon. Vince Cable, Ronni Ancona and June Brown to the title.
On winning the competition with his professional partner Kristina Rihanoff, John said: "It feels absolutely wonderful but I have to say for the time I've watched this it's about time that she [motions to Kristina] won. If I had time I'd love to do the entire series – that would be brilliant. I absolutely had a ball – it was amazing. A dream come true."
Of John and Kristina's Quickstep, the judges said:
Alesha Dixon: "You were smiling from ear to ear. It looked like you've quickstepped before and you were so springy I thought you were going to take off at one point. The lift sections were brilliant. I loved your solo section at the beginning as well. A brilliant way to start the show – you've come out full on, full energy – well done."
Bruno Tonioli: "Dazzlers don't come more dazzling than John Barrowman. Is there anything you can't do, or you haven't done, by the way? I'm telling you that was a real cracker with a huge, huge bang."
Craig Revel Horwood: "Well, I wish I could be as enthusiastic… you did lose a little bit of body contact I noticed in hold and there was one little stumble moment, which wasn't brilliant. But it was light, it was bright. I love the homage to Brucie at the beginning as well with your time step. Gorgeous."
Len Goodman: "John, I'll tell you what – you jingled my bells out there. You were cooking on gas, you were bubbling up like the brussels sprouts at Christmas lunchtime. It was full on, it was moving like billy-oh. A fabulous dance and a great start to the evening."
The remaining festive four celebrities danced as follows: Fern Britton and partner Matthew Cutler did the Jive, Rt. Hon Vince Cable and partner Erin Boag did the Foxtrot, Ronni Ancona and her partner Anton du Beke did the American Smooth and June Brown and Vincent Simone did the Tango.
The special episode also saw a performance by Only Men Aloud accompanied on the dance floor by Strictly professionals Robin Winsor and Christmas champ, Kristina Rihanoff. As well as a Christmassy group dance by this series' five semi finalists – Gavin Henson, Scott Maslen, Pamela Stephenson, Matt Baker and series winner Kara Tointon.
