Digital station ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 6 Music is set to launch a new radio show with the aim of bringing topical online music conversation alive, on air.
The innovative new interactive show, hosted by 6 Music presenter and trusted musical guide Tom Robinson, will provide 6 Music listeners and the online music community with a weekly on-air outlet to recommend, curate and share the music they are passionate about.
In a world of increased online music consumption thanks to websites, blogs, streaming services and social networks, this show will act as a filter for music fans overwhelmed by the landscape of choice in front of them.
By tapping into 6 Music's existing community of music lovers and reaching out into the wider digital world, the show will take part in, and reflect, the ever-changing online conversation about music.
Tom and the production team will track the online buzz around alternative music in a variety of ways – actively trawling the web for the hottest music downloads, talking to fans in different online communities to reflect their musical loves and dipping into real-time search on Twitter to get an up-to-the-minute snapshot of the music conversation.
There will also be the chance for the audience to build a weekly topical playlist, contributing opinions and tracks through a number of social music based services as well as the 6 Music website.
The new show, called Now Playing @6Music, is a co-commission from 6 Music and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Audio & Music Interactive (A&Mi), a first for the Interactive team.
Chris Kimber, Managing Editor, A&Mi, says: "I want this to be a ground-breaking new show which is built from the ground up on audience interactivity, rather than bolting it on. Every piece of music will come from the audience and from online music fans – this is music radio 2.0."
Paul Rodgers, Editor, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 6 Music, says: "This show will build on a dialogue 6 Music already has with its audience and further develop the station as a digital destination."
Now Playing @6Music will launch on Friday 8 April (7.00-9.00pm).
This new show is broadcast in a week of firsts for 6 Music which include a new show for much-loved music broadcasters Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie, who take up residency in their new lunchtime slot (weekdays 1-4pm), and the move of Nemone into Weekend Breakfast (Saturdays and Sundays, 7-10am). This week also sees the highly anticipated return of Sony Award winning Adam and Joe to Saturday mornings (10am-1pm).
´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 6 Music is an interactive digital radio station that celebrates the alternative spirit of music and culture.
In Q3 2010, 6 Music posted a record weekly audience reach of 1.2 million listeners, making it the biggest and most listened-to digital-only radio station in the UK.
Talent on the network includes a stellar line-up of trusted guides, from Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne and Jarvis Cocker to Cerys Matthews, Tom Ravenscroft and Huey Morgan.
