´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live adopts towns to follow the impact of the Budget

As Chancellor George Osborne prepares to announce the 2011-2012 Budget on 23 March, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live has "adopted " two towns to examine how the announcements will impact on people's lives over the coming year.

While there is a lot of coverage about the state of the UK economy and the need to tackle the deficit, 5 Live wants to find out what it actually means for its listeners and what impact the decisions made at Westminster will have on their day-to-day lives.

Commenting on the project, Stephen Mawhinney, Radio 5 Live's Head of News said: "We're 'adopting' two towns for the next year, to follow the lives of the people who live there.

"We chose Chorley and Falmouth so we can look at how two places, 350 miles apart and with very different economies, are affected by the same policies. Who's struggling and who's doing well?"

Stephen continued: "We'll be in regular contact with the people of Chorley and Falmouth, asking for their thoughts and experiences on everything from interest rates and jobs to the price of food, the prices of fuel, and the price of a university education – everything which affects how they live and how much money they have in their back pocket."

5 Live will be in both towns on Wednesday to hear initial reactions and opinions on how the country's money is being managed.

Then on Thursday the station will be reporting live from the town centres, talking to guests from all walks of life and covering local reaction to the previous day's announcements.

Richard Bacon will present the latest news as the Budget is revealed from 12 noon on Wednesday 23 March.

Later in the day, 5 Live Drive's Peter Allen will be live from Westminster to sum up the day's events and hear the reactions of politicians and pundits, and will also be hearing from guests in Chorley and Falmouth.

You can listen to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live on DAB radio, online at , on digital TV and on 909 and 693 Medium Wave.

Full schedule, podcasts, videos and best bits are available at bbc.co.uk/5live.
