As part of the Last Night of the Proms celebrations, aspiring singers will have the chance to appear on stage with Britain's favourite tenor Alfie Boe on 10 September at the Caird Hall in Dundee. The specially formed Dundee Proms Chorus will be one of the highlights of the evening, which also features Aberdonian opera star Lisa Milne and the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
This is the second time the Proms have visited Dundee, bringing some of the magic associated with the Last Night, but with a distinctly Scottish flavour. Assembled especially for the occasion, the Dundee Proms Chorus were a huge hit at last year's concert, and this year they will once again perform songs from some classic musicals and showpieces from some of the great operas.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland is on the lookout for would-be singers who would like to be part of the chorus, and is running a series of fun workshops, open to all aspiring singers over the age of 16. Led by the inspirational choir trainer Anna Flannagan, there will be six rehearsal sessions leading up to the big night, and a dress rehearsal with the orchestra and full company. No previous experience of singing is required and all the songs will be taught by ear for those who can't read music.
Anna Flannagan said: "The orchestra and I were completely bowled over with the chorus last year, their sound and their professionalism, and I know that the wonderful Alfie Boe and Lisa Milne will both be knocked out by them this year. I can't wait to work with them all again."
Broadcast live on TV and recorded for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio, the Dundee Proms Chorus will lead the audience in the Caird Hall for a link-up to the Last Night concert at the Royal Albert Hall live on ´óÏó´«Ã½ One, and to other venues across the UK.
All interested applicants should contact dundeepromschorus@bbc.co.uk or write to Proms Chorus Administrator, Zone 3.08, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland, 40 Pacific Quay, Glasgow, G51 1DA before Monday 11 July.
