´óÏó´«Ã½ The One Show presenter Alex Jones joins Only Men Aloud musical director Tim Rhys-Evans to co-present this year's ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms in the Park on Saturday 10 September.
Ammanford-born presenter Alex joined the ´óÏó´«Ã½ One daily magazine programme in 2010 and has become a mainstay on the channel, presenting Eurovision results and Let's Dance For Comic Relief in 2011.
Alex says: "Even though I'm now based in London, I always enjoy heading home to Wales, especially when I'm invited to present a live event such as ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms in the Park. With so many talented musicians and singers performing live on one stage, I'm sure the atmosphere will be incredible and a musical event not to be missed."
Performing for the very first time at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms in the Park, to be held in Caerphilly in the shadow of the spectacular castle, will be Wynne Evans, the well-known tenor who will perform the popular aria, Nessun Dorma, taken from the final act of Puccini's Turandot.
Joining him for an evening with a magical theme will be soprano Elin Manahan Thomas hoping to enchant the audience with her performance of The Sandman's aria from Hansel & Gretel by Humperdinck and Somewhere Over The Rainbow from The Wizard Of Oz.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales will be at the heart of the event, joining the UK-wide revelry of the Last Night of the Proms, adding their musical magic to the evening under the wand of Tecwyn Evans. This will be his first performance as conductor at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms in the Park, as he leads the feast of music that includes Harry Potter's Symphonic Suite, Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream and the theme music for the TV series, Merlin.
Bringing the summer festivities to a close, with classical music and fireworks, families and music lovers are invited to bring picnics and flags, and to join in with the theme of "magic and wizardry". Audiences are also invited to sing-along to a variety of popular numbers throughout the evening.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Cymru Wales present ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms in the Park, supported by Caerphilly County Borough Council at the Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields. Proms goers can also capture the atmosphere from the comfort of their own home, with live coverage on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Wales or on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Red Button. There will also be an opportunity to watch the highlights programme on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two Wales at a later date.
