´óÏó´«Ã½ Three and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 have joined forces to help tackle youth unemployment through a week of dedicated live programming across TV, radio and online, starting on Sunday 16 October.
Up For Hire will offer a range of support through five live programmes on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three and special programming and content on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1, exploring the issues faced by the young and unemployed.
The week kicks off on Sunday 16 October on Radio 1 with a The Surgery special, presented by Aled Haydn Jones. The show will offer lots of advice on how to get a job and will also give listeners the opportunity to speak to experts, including representatives from Next Step and The Surgery psychotherapist Dr Aaron Balick.
Also on Radio 1 from Monday, daytime DJs Scott Mills and Greg James will give out practical advice that young people can follow to help them find work.
With hosts Richard Bacon and Radio 1's Tina Daheley, Up For Hire Live is a unique multi-platform interactive show offering ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three viewers tips, advice and coaching from industry experts.
Episode one features Michelle Mone, Russell Kane and Stacey Solomon talking about their careers in CV Uncovered and the show includes a studio discussion and advice on the best way to get your foot in the door.
The week culminates on Thursday 20 October in a 30-minute special on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three where Richard and Tina will review the successes of the show and run through some of the lessons learnt along the way.
Zai Bennett, Controller of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three said: "With nearly a million young people out of work in the UK it is about time a broadcaster tackled this important issue head on. ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three's new campaigning show, Up For Hire, will help our audience get their foot on the career ladder by giving them real world tips and advice that everyone will wish they had when they were first starting out."
There will also be 23 opportunities offered by seven well-known companies throughout the UK who are supporting the Up For Hire Live initiative – Argos, Greggs, Hilton Worldwide, ScottishPower, Starbucks, Timpson and Virgin Media.
Piers Bradford, Commissioning Editor, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1 said: "Unemployment is the biggest issue facing our young audience at the moment. As such, it feels totally right that Radio 1 and ´óÏó´«Ã½ 3 should be joining forces to discuss all the issues for a week. If we are able to offer any practical help, support or inspiration to those currently seeking work, then we should grab the chance."
In addition to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three and Radio 1's content, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Learning has commissioned nine learning films and collaborated with Lab UK to create the Get Yourself Hired Test for the Up For Hire website at bbc.co.uk/upforhire.
The learning films provide advice and personal insights from employees from a range of industries on subjects such as how to fill out your CV, how to perform well in an interview and how to be a good team player.
This advice comes straight from industry expects and celebrities, including ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three's Cherry Healey and Radio 1 DJs including Scott Mills.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Lab UK Get Yourself Hired Test will quiz participants on their employment background, attitudes and skills, gathering essential data on jobseekers around the United Kingdom.
Participants in the test will receive tailored job-seeking advice from The Apprentice winner Tim Campbell and the test will give researchers more insight into unemployment and ultimately answer the question of what makes a successful jobseeker.
