#NewMusicFriday: It's Rita Ora vs Liam Payne

As if Rita Ora co-hosting the Radio 1 Breakfast Show wasn't enough of a big deal, Liam Payne also dropped into the studio to join Rita and Grimmy.

There were two reasons Liam joined us today; he is one of the performers at this year's Teen Awards and he's also got a new single out today.

And he's not the only one... Rita's got a new bop as well.

Here's Liam's new tune, Bedroom Floor

Yes. It is a bit of a banger.

"It's mainly baby stuff on my bedroom floor," Liam said on the show, before telling the story behind the song - and the sort of relationship that inspired the track.

"It's about a torrid relationship where you're torn - you're not in or out but you always end up with your clothes on the bedroom floor."

Oh, and Bedroom Floor was written by the one and only Charlie Puth.

Rita Ora does the WORST impression of Cheryl

But at least her attempts at a Newcastle accent kept Liam Payne amused.

But while the song is brand new, the song's title might be familiar to anyone who listens to the Breakfast Show. After all, when Liam was in to promote his debut single Strip That Down, girlfriend Cheryl texted into the show to chat about this song.

"Cheryl dropped me in it straight off!" Liam said.

"I'm on the radio; she drops Grimmy a text saying "Ask him about Bedroom Floor. I've not revealed anything about my track listing, and I was there to promote Strip That Down!

"Anything else she wants to drop me in today?"

Lucky for Liam, his girlfriend kept quiet - this time around.

And now, let鈥檚 talk about Rita's new single

Rita says she wrote the song in Los Angeles, but while she was missing her hometown of London.

"I felt really still and stuck," she said as she introduced Anywhere on Radio 1.

"I just felt really slow and I wanted to listen to a song I could drive into the distance with. I wrote this song because I wanted to hit the road."

Rita Ora AND Liam Payne both release singles today and join Grimmy in the studio!

The song (which she describes as "folky with a sick beat") also comes with a stunning video, shot on the streets of New York.

"I was literally grabbing people from the street and kissing them," she revealed.

"They were looking at me like I was crazy. They were all really good and wanted to be involved.

"The cab driver kissed me and I think we're now dating."

(This was a joke, FYI. Rita is not dating a New York cab driver).

But despite both having singles out on the same day, Liam and Rita say there's no sense of competition between them - or any other pop star for that matter.

"It is what it is, if you don't do it this week, next week someone else is putting something out," says Rita.

"You've just got to do your thing and just look at yourself."

And for Liam, no competition will ever come close to what happened when he first released music with One Direction.

"When we first released a song as 1D we were up against Rihanna first time," he said.

"I was like 'OK, let’s start small.'
