鈥業 stopped hiding my stoma and my body confidence skyrocketed鈥
21 November 2018
Eilidh has had a stoma since she was three years old. Only after turning 20, however, did she find the confidence to stop hiding it from the world.
A stoma is a little piece of your gut that a surgeon pulls through your abdomen and then waste just goes into a pouch instead of out the butthole.
The taboo around bowels and stereotype that only the elderly have stomas are what Eilidh believes prevented her from being open about her condition earlier in life.
Since admitting that she has a stoma, Eilidh found that her body confidence ‘skyrocketed’.
“I now wear bikinis on the beach and crop tops – regardless of weather – just because I’ve hidden my stomach all my life. It’s kind of a novelty to have it visible all the time ...even if I am freezing!”
