‘I saw creatures in the rocks!’ — could you hack the Spine Race?
25 January 2019
When 35-year-old vet Jasmin Paris smashed the 268-mile Montane Spine Race record last week, so much attention was focused on her status as a breastfeeding mum that many may have missed just what an incredible achievement this was for any human.
Paris ran the equivalent of 10 marathons and climbed well over the equivalent of Mount Everest with no support team, spending two-thirds of the race in the dark and opting to sleep for under three out of 83 hours.
“I was seeing creatures in the rocks... so I had all these sorts of small hallucinations as I was walking along.
“I also kept falling half-asleep as I walked.”
In conversation with Fiona Stalker on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotland’s Out for the Weekend, Jasmin described what drove her to attempt the race in the first place, let alone win and smash its record.
