Great Northern Christmas

Local 大象传媒 radio stations across the North are after your help to recreate two Christmas songs for a special festive radio show.

We want you to sing alongside weatherman Owain Wyn Evans; the 大象传媒 Philharmonic and Hacker & Dodge from C大象传媒 and Cbeebies to special performances of Winter Wonderland and Frosty the Snowman.

Send us your recordings before midnight on Sunday, 6 December and then listen out for a mix of your performances as part of a special radio programme to be broadcast across local 大象传媒 radio stations in the North at 1pm on Christmas Day.

Join in

Winter Wonderland

Join our giant virtual choir by recording yourself singing. You can sing alone, with your household or in your bubble.

Download the lyrics; listen to the backing track and film yourselves singing this festive tune.

Frosty the Snowman

Join Owain's virtual band by playing along to the song. You can play a musical instrument, bang some pots and pans or be creative with anything that makes a noise at home.

Film yourselves playing along to our backing track and upload it to us.

Top tips and kit

You don't need any professional kit to get involved, recording on a mobile phone is absolutely fine. Here are some tips to how to get your tracks to us.

Use headphones: When recording, please listen along to the backing track on headphones rather than speakers. The backing track shouldn’t be heard in the clip at all as this will be added afterwards on the montage - so try a test clip to make sure you can't hear it coming through the headphones, and try putting on a low volume.

If you are using a mobile phone:

  • Try to record using the camera and not in selfie-mode. You may need to try a few shots to get the framing just right.
  • Film in landscape, rather than portrait, framed from just above the head to just below the chest.
  • Try to put yourself in the centre of the frame.
  • Try propping the phone up so it’s a steady shot.
  • Make sure no one is wearing any clothing with visible brand logos or any slogans.
  • Set up in an area with plenty of natural light and avoid filming in front of a window.
  • Leave a few seconds of silence before and after the music.
  • Double check to make sure your background is okay and there’s nothing you wouldn't want to show to the world!
  • Finally - make sure that it's nice and quiet before you start, and put your phone on aeroplane mode to avoid notifications disrupting the perfect recording.
