Diesel the rescue dog — and more working animals with odd jobs

3 December 2018

Diesel the dog is trained to sniff out people trapped underneath rubble. He works with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

That sort of specialist training is one example of how working animals can provide invaluable help in ways that are impossible for humans.

Here’s Diesel is action — along with some other, more bizarre jobs undertaken by working animals.

Police dogs

Working dogs are vitally important to the emergency services, none moreso than police dogs.

In early 2018, Leicestershire Police welcomed a new litter of police puppies.

Northumbria Police had four of their 13-week-old pups take to the pool before starting their careers sniffing out drugs, money and weapons.

The pups’ first swimming lesson – in a special hydrotherapy pool – began to build up their strength and get them used to water.
