The story of Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park

Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park really is a day like no other, especially when it's basking in glorious September sunshine.

Is it actually possible to sum up all the music, stars, fun and frolics from the day in just one page? We'll give it our best shot with some of the most amazing moments from Radio 2's Festival in a Day.

Simply Red drew a huge crowd with their opening set

No sooner had Hyde Park festival-goers opened their picnic hampers, Simply Red's Mick Hucknall was delivering all the hits with an incredible set.

Ahead of releasing 12th studio album Blue Eyed Soul, Hucknall and co. brought new tunes, classic cuts, sax solos and a serious dose of funk to proceedings.

What a way to start an unforgettable day!

Welcome back, Bob Harris!

Beloved Country Show host Bob Harris marked his return to Radio 2 by receiving a hero's welcome at Hyde Park.

"I'm so happy to be on this stage and back at Radio 2 again," he said, before introducing country superstar Kelsea Ballerini to the stage.

Bananarama played hit after hit

They’ve sold 40 million records worldwide (making them the UK’s third most successful girl group, behind Spice Girls and Little Mix), so it’s no surprise Banaramama’s set was packed to the brim with huge singalongs.

‘Cruel Summer’, ‘Robert De Niro's Waiting’, ‘Venus’, ‘Love in the First Degree’… It’s impossible to pick a favourite!

Funkmaster Craig Charles got Hyde Park dancing

On a perfect Sunday, Craig helped Hyde Park kickstart an afternoon boogie. His DJ set was a hit-after-hit masterclass on how to get an entire festival crowd to bust some moves.

The Funk and Soul Show host is such a cool customer.

You can expect a lot more of this in a couple of weeks at Radio 2's All-Star Party in Blackpool!

Clean Bandit pulled out all the stops (and wrapped up warm)

Hyde Park turned into a classical-pop paradise for Clean Bandit’s set, which boasted chart-topping hits, bold fashion choices and a sea of confetti.

“We’ve been travelling around the world this summer, I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to be home in London,” cellist Grace Chatto told the crowd.

But spare a thought for singer Yasmin Green, who donned a winter number for one of the hottest days of the year. “I had another option, but I thought, ‘Oh no, I’ll just wear a trench coat.” We’ve all made that kind of fashion faux pas!

From classical pop to classic rock and roll, it鈥檚 Status Quo!

These legends need no introduction, but Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine said it best when welcoming Status Quo to the stage: “They’re one of the greatest rock bands in the world!”

The group boast over 6000 gigs to their name, and though we can’t claim to have seen every single one, this was up there with their slickest performances. You simply cannot ask for much better than sun-doused renditions of ‘Rocking All Over The World’, ‘Caroline’, 'In the Army Now' and ‘Down Down’.

20 years?! Westlife relived some precious memories

It’s a whopping 20 years since Westlife first stole our hearts, and the iconic boyband still know how to steal a show.

“It’s amazing to stand up here on a stage like this, it brings us back,” Nicky Bryne said after performing 1999 hit ‘Steal You Again’. Throwback moments like ‘Uptown Girl’ and ‘Flying Without Wings’ were perfect for Hyde Park’s Sunday sunset moment, but there’s still more to come from the Irish sweethearts – Byrne revealed they’ve written new music with the almighty Ed Sheeran.

Pet Shop Boys gave us a dazzling electric finale

This Hyde Park set had everything: shiny jackets galore; an army of sumo wrestlers with show-stopping dance moves; stunning stage lights; brilliant guest appearances, and endless head props.

Pet Shop Boys mixed the glam with the genuinely breathtaking, delivering a set fully worthy of their headline slot. Years & Years’ Olly Alexander joined the duo for new single ‘Dreamland’, and Beverly Knight guested for ‘What Have I Done To Deserve This?’ – it was the first time Pet Shop Boys performed the song with anyone since Dusty Springfield, who sang on the original version.

Closer ‘Always On My Mind’ then fittingly drew our Festival in a Day’s biggest singalong. What a performance!
