‘My illustration of Frightened Rabbit’s Scott Hutchison was a charitable gesture; I’m angry that another company ripped it off’
17 October 2018
The death of Scott Hutchison, frontman for Frightened Rabbit, was felt deeply by the band’s fans.
Illustrator Becky was no different: “I was absolutely devastated; I felt like my friend had died.”
She decided to create an illustration of Scott and donate the profits from any online sales – already over £1,500 – to a mental health charity.
So when she learned her design had been used without permission on a t-shirt sold by another company, Becky was ‘disgusted’.
“I feel pretty angry, to be honest. It’s so recent and so raw.”

Becky found out that her design was being sold elsewhere for profit.
Becky took comfort, however, from fellow Frightened Rabbit fans sharing their disapproval of the design’s unauthorised use.
“That’s been a wonderful thing to experience: that there does seem to be a secret community out there of Frightened Rabbit fans who have all really, genuinely got each others’ backs.
“There is some decency left in the world.”
