A Wish for Christmas (5-9 age category)
A Rock n Roll Christmas by Evie McCaughey
Read by Phillip Sacramento.
Elvis the Elf from 22 Candy-cane street, North Pole, was the long eared King of Rock n Roll.
In his 333 years living in Santa’s kingdom he listened to every Rock n roll artist throughout the land! His favourites were Buddy Ho Ho Holly, The Bell-tells and Michael Jingle-son, but none could compare to his idol and person he was named after, Elvis Present-ly!
Uh huh uh!
Rehearsals for the Carol service were soon to begin in Snowfall Hall. Exciting? Not for Elvis, he was tired of traditional boring Christmas songs. Elvis sighed, he hated the song “Rudolf the red nose reindeer” Rudolf’s nose was no longer red! Mrs Claus had given him a dose of medicine 300 years ago to clear his cold.
If only Elvis could sprinkle a little Rock N Roll magic over Christmas...
Wait a minute, of course he could!! He had a guitar, microphone and three soul sister friends, Tracy, Lacey and Macy!
Time for a plan!
It was the night of the Carol Service in Snowfall Hall. There was not the usual Christmas cheer you would expect. The elves knew the Carol Service would be the same as every other year……..BORING!
When suddenly, there was a flash of light, a beat on the drum, a finger slide on the piano.
ELVIS “ A one, two, a one, two three four”
"Baby let me bring
Some lovin’ Christmas cheer,
Rock n Roll and lots of soul,
The best part of the year!
Oh let me bring
(Tracy, Lacy and Macy ) Oh Let Him bring,
A little Christmas cheer"
The Elves went wild.
The reindeers rocked.
Santa and Mrs Claus jived.
Elvis got his wish!
A rock n roll magic Christmas and a number 1 hit on billboard hot 100!
Uh huh uh!
The Magic Wishmas Tree by Liam McWilliams
Read by Christopher Grant. Illustration by Finlay McGrath.
When Liam and his family were walking in Derrynoid Forest they saw a poor wee Christmas tree.
Liam felt sad and stood looking at it when it started to talk to him.
"Little boy I am broken. Please take me home and look after me and I will grant you wishes".
Liam asked his Mammy and Daddy to take the wee tree home.
Liam and his Daddy planted the wee tree outside his window. He checked on the tree every day and it was getting bigger.
On Christmas Eve morning he woke and could hear his name but it didn't sound like Mammy or Daddy.
IT WAS THE WEE TREE.
Liam jumped up and ran out.
The wee tree said "I am better because you looked after me, tell me what you want to wish for".
Liam said he always wanted to fly. And up they went to the sky over Draperstown.
Liam grabbed a star and put it on the tree.
Liam wanted another wish but the wee tree was tired and said maybe tomorrow.
Liam said but all I want is for my family and friends to have a great Christmas.
The wee tree winked at him. Then Liam woke up in his bed and heard his Mammy and Daddy talking about a star at the top of the wee tree and how did it get there.
Liam had a big smile knowing how it got there.
Sam鈥檚 Wish by Alfie Liggett
Read by Michael Patrick. Illustration by Niamh Corry.
It was Christmas eve and Sam the Brown family’s dog was watching Mum and Dad preparing the food for Christmas. Sam battled the temptation of the food; he didn’t want to repeat last year…
He had ruined Christmas, chewed the presents and eaten the Christmas turkey. He was kicked out of the house for Christmas, he was sad and alone. At that moment the smell of the turkey wafted around the kitchen he fought the temptation to eat the turkey again. Sam wished he wasn’t a greedy dog, he wished with all his heart.
All day guests arrived with presents sweets and dog treats there was Granny and Grand-da Brown, Nanny Gossip and all the cousins. Sam didn’t lick everyone faces (like he usually did) and didn’t steal any muffins or biscuits that were out, he was on his best behaviour. Sam was drooling heavily and trying to wipe it on the carpet out of sight of anyone, but the cousins found him and that’s where it went downhill. They told everyone! Sam felt hurt and sad. He was trying so hard not to be bold.
Everyone came into the room and laughed at Sam. But it was ok no one was shouting at him. “It’s ok Sam at least you’re trying” said Nanny Gossip.
Later that night when everyone was in bed Sam was sleeping on the sofa. He dreamed about Santa leaving him something, a treat for good behaviour.
On Christmas morning the Brown family came downstairs and there is Sam still sleeping. The children noticed a new stocking on the fireplace labelled Sam’s Wish. They woke Sam up and showed him the stocking, in it was a small magical turkey. Sam was never greedy again.
