Mark Sanders
Mark Sanders is a drummer/percussionist who has played with countless renowned improvising musicians in concerts and festivals all over the world, including Roscoe Mitchell, Evan Parker, Myra Melford, Christian Marclay and Paul Dunmall.
He has recently been playing festivals in Europe in duo with Nicole Mitchell and as a member of Wadada Leo Smith's ' Fire-Love Expanse' and 'Shifa' with Pat Thomas and Rachel Musson.
He is a regular member of the groups of John Butcher having played festivals in Brazil, The US and Europe.
Mark has performed works by guitarist John Coxon in Glasgow and Sydney playing with the Scottish and Sydney Symphony Orchestras. With New York’s ICE Ensemble he has performed John Zorn’s The Tempest in London and at Huddersfield New Music Festival.
He appears on over 220 vinyl and CD releases.
Mark is a recipient of the 2024 Paul Hamlyn Award for Artists.
He is Visiting Lecturer at The Royal Academy of Music and was a Lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire teaching his own improvisation module for seven years.
He has also been a guest tutor at Guildhall School of Music , Trinity Laban, Goldsmiths, Dartington Summer School and 'Britten Pears' Aldeburgh Young Musicians.
