Remember Monday, consisting of Charlotte, Holly and Lauren officially confirmed the news to Scott Mills live on Radio 2 this morning (Friday 7th March) and listeners also heard the first exclusive play of the Eurovision song.
They co-wrote the song with U.K. production duo and BRIT nominees Billen Ted (Tom Hollings and Sam Brennan) and Julie 'Kill J' Aagaard and Thomas Stengaard. Billen Ted have worked with Little Mix, Anne Marie, MNEK and Armin van Buuren to name a few. Thomas Stengaard previously wrote Denmark’s 2013 Eurovision winning song ‘Only Teardrops’.
The band met at Sixth form college in 2013 where they would sing together every Monday - hence their name. Best friends since they were teens, Charlotte and Lauren were bridesmaids at Holly’s wedding and the girls even have matching tattoos.
Remember Monday say: “‘What The Hell Just Happened’ is exactly how we’re feeling right now! It’s all very surreal; our friendship goes so far back, and we definitely never imagined that we’d be doing anything like this... We’re going to be the first girlband to represent the UK since 1999, which feels like such a crazy honour.'
As well as their own brand of empowering pop, Remember Monday are well known for their viral acapella performances on social media. They’ve amassed over half a million loyal followers and 11.3 million likes on TikTok alone.
Prior to their decision to quit their day jobs and become full time band members in 2023, the girls each had individual impressive musical theatre careers having appeared in West End productions of Phantom of the Opera’ (Holly) ‘Matilda’ (Lauren) and ‘Mary Poppins’ (Charlotte).
Remember Monday first hit our TV screens in 2019 when they reached the quarter-finals on The Voice UK. Their coach on the show, the Grammy, Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe winning singer and actress, Jennifer Hudson, continues to mentor and support the band, even inviting them to perform on her US chat show last year.
Remember Monday say: 'We’re going to bring loads of fun, energy and hopefully do something that you won’t have seen before on the Eurovision stage… We’ll do our best to bring it home!”
