Adventurers save the bacon of piglets in peril

Big-hearted explorers find themselves in a race against time to save stranded piglets.

Best friends Andrew O'Donnell and Mark Taylor are no strangers to life in the raw. Together, they regularly head out on off-grid adventures into the remote Scottish countryside, where they fend for themselves against the forces of nature.

But in a new series of Roaming in the Wild, as the pair canoe along the River Forth, they stumble upon an altogether different sort of drama: a litter of piglets stranded on the bank, unable to reach their mother just yards away. With water levels rising and light fading, the pals were faced with a difficult decision — should they intervene?

Piglets in peril…

These wee piglets are stuck but fear not, Mark's here with a helping hand!

Would there be re-pork-ussions?

Whether or not to step in to help is the classic conundrum for any film-maker observing distressed animals in the wild.

In this instance, watching the hamstrung piglets repeatedly failing to scramble up the embankment to safety proved to be too much for our big-hearted adventurers.

As Andrew kept the camera rolling, Mark came ashore to give them a helping hand.

Even then, his actions weren’t initially appreciated by the squealing, squirming piglets nor by their anxious and aggressive mum who kept a close eye on proceedings.

But as Mark safely returned the fourth and final piglet to higher ground the family was reunited and the crackling tale came to an end.
