大象传媒 Inspirations 2020: Terms and Privacy Notice

These terms and privacy notice were revised on Wednesday 4 November, 2020.

大象传媒 Inspirations is an award that honours inspirational people and unsung heroes from all across the world. It is a biennial event run by Outlook, the 大象传媒 World Service’s flagship radio programme which specialises in telling extraordinary personal stories.

We suspended this year’s awards on 24 March, 2020 after the UK went into lockdown. At that point we were building a longlist of nominees and accepting audience submissions for potential nominees. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, we have had to take extraordinary measures to be able to resume and ensure the safest and fairest outcome.

This year there will be no round of shortlisting or judging, or a live awards ceremony. Instead all of the nominees who made it to the longlist will be the winners of the 2020 大象传媒 Inspirations Awards - these are:

Justin Finlayson
Sam Jalloh
Diane Reeve
Sohail Yafat
Tartania Brown
Luke Hart
Ryan Hart
Ana Baquedano
Lorenzo Rojas-Bracho

We were unable to include audience submissions for nominees in this year’s longlist. All the details have been saved securely and will roll over for consideration the next time we hold the awards. If you would like to revoke your data or remove your entry, please email us: inspirations@bbc.com.

JUDGING CRITERIA

1) All nominations for 大象传媒 Inspirations will be judged under the following criteria:

Nominees must have an extraordinary personal story to tell about their own lives

We are looking for unsung heroes, people who have not been featured in a significant way by international media

Their stories will demonstrate that they have shown great levels of resilience and determination. They may have:
• shown extreme compassion and forgiveness.
• championed the unpopular and broken taboos in order to make their communities a better place.
• undertaken extraordinary journeys of survival or battled against the odds to follow their dreams.
• become a source of inspiration in the way they overcame a significant obstacle in their life to achieve their goals.
• found themselves caught in a moment which prompted them to find extraordinary levels of bravery and strength of character to achieve something phenomenal.
• made an exceptional personal sacrifice, providing life-changing help to another person or their wider community.
• risked their reputation publicly, making themselves vulnerable to highlight a challenging issue.

These are all people who show us a better side of being human. Above all, their story will be an inspiration to all around them.

Their story will have impact. It will help listeners to better understand an aspect of human nature or a region of the world.

Their story must resonate with a global community and must still be relevant today.

Nominees must be 18 or over as of 9 March, 2020

Nominees must not be 大象传媒 employees, employees of any of its affiliates, close relatives of any such employees or those connected to these awards directly or through a close relative. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested.
