Channel Yourself

A spoken-word celebration of the new ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland TV channel.

Channel your sharp edges
And your shortcomings
Channel your shaky, sheltered unknowns
And your running for your grassy goal moments
Channel growing up
Not wrapping up when it’s cold
For preferring to feel the bold in bucket loads
And the papercuts of the gig tickets
Channel your bum notes and your belters
Your 99ers that had a flake
And the ripoffs you let melt away
Channel your proud pebbledash
And the mansion you wish you had
Channel your sheets hanging out to dry days
And your pouring sky days
Channel your patchwork
Your nature in the city
And your concrete in the country
Your late night back of the bus circus
And your crack of dawn train hustle
Channel your own golden home
Where you built walls
And where your bricks fell to let
The world have a go at
Your grey sky with blue surprises
Channel your pride that doesn’t hide claws
Your pride that paints out your feisty flaws
And your raw misty gifts
Channel your hand that makes fists
And your hand that reaches out
To take risks and craft kindnesses
Channel coming out
And your closet shelf
Channel your strong builds
And your flat pack skelfs
Don’t get washed away in streaming rivers
Or lose chapters to algorithms
Don’t choose between the big and the small
Channel it all
Your skint shivers where you couldn’t hold it
And your heart’s wealth where you own it
Channel yourself
And you’ll never channel a dull moment.
