Homophobia victim: Scotland鈥檚 world-first move to add LGBTI education to the curriculum 鈥榗ould eradicate closed-mindedness鈥
13 November 2018
“I have never been more proud to be Scottish.”
Those are the words of activist Blair Wilson, responding to the news that Scotland will lead the world in LGBTI education by embedding it in the curriculum.
In a video for The Social, Blair says the move will create a more positive experience for young LGBTI people growing up in Scotland.
“This education isn’t about forcing ‘LGBT agenda’ on to children. [It’s more about not letting] the next generation grow up so closed-minded and bigoted.”
Blair reacts to LGBT+ education in schools!
It has been announced that LGBT+ education would be introduced to Scottish schools.
Blair hit the headlines earlier in 2018 for his iconic reaction to being the victim of homophobic violence. His defiant response drew praise from Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Changing the curriculum to include LGBTI is something Blair believes would have helped him when he was younger.
“I think if I had this education when I was in school, I wouldn’t have had to go on such a harmful journey of self-discovery. I probably would have been more out and proud rather than trying to hide it.”
