大象传媒 Radio 1's Minute of Me 2022 Privacy Notice

Your trust is very important to us. This means the 大象传媒 is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data. It is important that you read this notice so that you are aware of how and why we are using such personal data. This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal data about you during and after your relationship with us, in accordance with data protection law.

Why are we doing this and how can you participate?
If you’re aged between 16-24 years old and living in the UK, the 大象传媒 is giving you the opportunity to have one (1) minute with the microphone completely to yourself on 大象传媒 Radio 1.

What are your hopes and fears in the year 2022? It could be around identity; friends and family; money; the environment; music; social media; sport; or anything else you care about. Send us a written submission outlining your point of view and we’ll consider it for Minute of Me.

If your written submission is selected, we will call you and ask you to send us an audio recording of your submission.

The 大象传媒 will collect the personal data via an online platform used by the 大象传媒.

When you contribute to the 大象传媒, we may use your contribution in our programmes or content, but we cannot promise to use everything that we receive. If we broadcast your contribution, this may include the programme being available online and/or on demand, and your contribution may be used again in a future broadcast. It may also include use on the 大象传媒’s social media channels.

What personal information will the 大象传媒 collect and how we will use it?
There are two types of personal data: personal data and special category data. Special category data is still personal data, but its processing by the 大象传媒 requires the 大象传媒 to follow additional compliance steps.

You need to be 16-24 years old to submit something for Minute of Me.

The 大象传媒 will collect and process the following personal data about you:
• Your name
• Your age
• Your phone number
• Email address
• Rough geographic location
• Your written submission which contains your personal story, experience and opinions
• An audio recording of your submission, if you are selected to contribute to the programme

If you are under 18, you will also need to provide below personal data of your parent or guardian so that we can confirm you have their permission to participate in the programme and to share your story.
• Contact telephone number
• Email address

Depending on the content of your submission, the 大象传媒 may also collect the following special category data about your nominee:
• Racial or ethnic origin
• Religious or philosophical beliefs
• Health information
• Sexual orientation

Who is the Data Controller?
The 大象传媒 is the “data controller” of your personal data. This means that the 大象传媒 decides what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. For the avoidance of doubt, your personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes set out in this privacy notice. As the data controller, the 大象传媒 has the responsibility to comply, and to demonstrate compliance with, data protection law.

Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The lawful basis on which the 大象传媒 processes the personal data is the performance of its public task. The lawful basis on which the 大象传媒 processes your special category data is substantial public interest. The 大象传媒’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates and entertains, and to reflect the United Kingdom and its cultures and values to the world.

Sharing your personal data
The 大象传媒 works with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the 大象传媒 and not independently of the 大象传媒.

Retaining your personal data
If your content is not used on-air your personal data will be deleted on 1st April 2023.

If your audio is used for broadcast, your personal data will be retained and archived in perpetuity by the 大象传媒.

The personal data collected will be stored within the UK and EEA.

Your rights and more information
You have rights under data protection law:
• You can request a copy of the personal data the 大象传媒 stores about you.
• You have the right to request that we rectify any inaccurate or incomplete personal data that we hold about you.
• You have the right to ask for the personal data we collect about you to be deleted, however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the 大象传媒 to refuse your request.
• In certain circumstances you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data, or to object to the processing of your personal data.
• You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data to you or to another organisation, in certain circumstances.
