‘My dog stole my coming out letter ...and then my mum saw it!’

Coming out to your family can be extremely difficult.
It’s one of the most important conversations an LGBTQI+ person will ever have, so to have that moment taken away from you can be an unsettling experience — especially if that’s what happens literally.
“I took up my pen and wrote a rather long letter. After a while, trying to choose the right time [to share it], fate intervened and my dog snatched the letter and ran down the stairs with it ...which my mum saw.”
The wide smile on this contributor’s face shows they saw the funny side of the canine intervention. For many young LGBTQI+ people, however, coming out can be a challenging process.
But as the young dog owner, who now proudly identifies as being gay, attested: “I’ve never met someone who has regretted coming out.”
